Buying used robotics parts: a checklist for Sri Lankan builders

Check model numbers, condition, compatibility, included accessories and seller arrangements before buying a used robotics part in Sri Lanka.

Know the exact part you need

Start with your project’s requirements and the exact model number of the part you are considering. A title such as ‘motor driver’ or ‘controller’ is a starting point, not enough information to establish compatibility. Ask for a clear photo of the model markings and compare them with the manufacturer’s documentation.

For a replacement, check the revision as well as the product name. For a new build, write down the specifications and interfaces your project requires before comparing listings. If you cannot confirm that a part suits your design, ask someone familiar with that component rather than relying only on its appearance.

  • What is the exact manufacturer, model and revision?
  • Is the manufacturer’s documentation available?
  • Do the documented electrical and mechanical specifications match the project?
  • Are the required connectors, cables, mounts and accessories included?

Ask what ‘used’ means for this listing

A used component may have been tested recently, removed from an older build, repaired, or stored without testing. Ask the seller to describe its history, any modifications, known faults and the last test performed. ‘Untested’ should be treated as uncertainty, not a promise that a part works.

Request current photos of the actual item, including identifying marks, connectors and any damage. A catalogue picture may help identify a model but does not show the condition of the particular item for sale. On ArenaBots, images are added manually by an administrator, and a listing may have no photo. Ask the seller for further information directly when needed.

Agree on what can be checked before payment

Ask whether the seller can demonstrate the part’s stated function or provide a recent test record. Agree in advance on what that demonstration does and does not establish. A single test is not a guarantee of every feature or long-term reliability.

Use manufacturer-approved test procedures and suitable equipment. Do not improvise a power connection or a moving mechanism just to complete a sale. If you cannot assess a component safely or interpret its specifications, get help from an experienced builder before proceeding.

Compare the complete cost and the seller’s terms

Compare the asking price with other available options for the same model and condition. Include missing accessories, transport and any work required to make the component usable. A lower listing price does not necessarily mean a lower project cost.

Confirm the quantity, currency, collection or delivery arrangement, and any return or refund agreement directly with the seller. Keep a record of the agreed description and terms. Avoid sharing passwords, one-time codes or unnecessary identity documents. If a seller cannot answer basic questions about the item, you can choose not to proceed.

  • Is the listed item still available, and what exactly is included?
  • What is the agreed total in LKR, including any delivery charge?
  • Who is responsible for packing, transport and collection?
  • What happens if the item differs from the agreed description?
  • Have you recorded the model, condition and agreed terms?

Understand ArenaBots’ role

ArenaBots publishes reviewed listings and provides the contact details a seller has consented to make public. Review does not mean that ArenaBots has independently tested a component or guaranteed a seller’s claims. Contact the seller to confirm availability, condition and arrangements.

ArenaBots currently has no online checkout, payment processing or delivery service. Payment and collection or delivery are arranged directly between buyer and seller. The website will not ask you to enter card details to buy a part. Use the marketplace to discover possible parts, then make an informed decision based on the actual item and the terms you agree.
