Start with a real event and its organiser
Choose an event before committing to a particular robot design. Start with the ArenaBots event directory and open an event’s detail page to check its date, venue, format and organiser. If the directory is empty, there are no approved events published yet; that does not mean there are no robotics activities elsewhere in Sri Lanka.
Follow the organiser’s linked registration page and latest announcements. An older poster or a shared social post may be useful for discovering an event, but confirm the current details with the organiser before travelling, paying an entry fee or buying parts. ArenaBots reviews submissions; the organiser remains responsible for the event and its rules.
Check whether the competition fits your team
Read the eligibility and category rules before registering. Do not assume two events use the same age groups, team sizes, weight limits or judging process. If a requirement is unclear, ask the organiser directly and keep the answer with your event notes.
If you are new to building, a workshop or community meetup may be a useful first step. You can also attend a competition as a spectator when the organiser permits it. Check whether spectator entry needs a separate booking.
- Who can enter, and how many people can be on a team?
- Which robot category are you entering, and what constraints apply?
- When does registration close, and what does entry cost?
- What equipment, documents and safety checks are required?
- Where are the official rules and any later updates published?
Turn the rules into a build checklist
Save the current rule document and its version or publication date. Write down every requirement that affects your build, then check your design against it before ordering components. A part that suits one project may be unsuitable for another, even when it looks similar.
List the components you already own, the parts you need, and the tools or workshop access you will require. Budget for the complete entry, including travel and any organiser fees, rather than just the robot. Leave time for testing and for replacing an unsuitable component. Use the organiser’s safety instructions and each component manufacturer’s documentation throughout the build.
Register through the confirmed channel
Use the registration link on the reviewed event page or a channel confirmed by the organiser. Check the event name, date and category before submitting a form. Share only the information the organiser needs, and keep your confirmation and any receipt.
An ArenaBots event listing is not an entry confirmation. A registration button may take you to an external platform, and submitting an event to ArenaBots is a separate process from registering a team. If registration is closed or not yet open, contact the organiser rather than assuming an old form still accepts valid entries.
Prepare for the day and keep checking for changes
Before leaving, recheck the organiser’s latest venue, arrival time and check-in instructions. Pack your confirmation, required documents, permitted equipment and a copy of the rules. Agree on team responsibilities and how you will get to the venue.
If the event details change, follow the organiser’s official update. After attending, note what you learned and what you would change for your next build. When sharing a recap, distinguish your own experience from official rules so another beginner does not mistake one event’s requirements for a universal standard.

Find reviewed robotics events in Sri Lanka, browse robotics parts from community sellers, or read another beginner guide. Organisers can submit an event for review.
This is general planning guidance. Confirm event requirements with the organiser and component specifications with the manufacturer. Contact a seller directly about an individual listing.
